Relocation Resources 

The university has partnered with various preferred vendors to help new employees with their relocation needs. We recommend employees use the services of one these vendors while relocating.

Relocation Assistance Program

Administered by Coldwell Banker Relocation Services

GW has partnered with Coldwell Banker Relocation Services to offer incoming employees relocation services. The GW Relocation Assistance Program can provide you and your family with advocacy and housing assistance, including rental search, home buying, furnished corporate housing, and area orientation.

GW employees are eligible to receive a rebate or credit equivalent to 15% of the listing or purchase side commission (the side your agent represents) when buying or selling a home through the Relocation Assistance Program. (See eligibility requirements below.*)

Additional closing cost credits are available from a program-preferred mortgage partner. Receive .5% of your home loan amount when you close with a program lender.*

To enroll in the GW Relocation Assistance Program and speak with a consultant about available service options, please email a request to [email protected]com. A consultant will contact you to offer assistance within 24 hours.  

To better assist you, please include the following available details in your request:

  • Your name
  • Phone if preferred method of contact
  • Approximate start date of position with GW
  • Your hiring contact and school/department
  • Are you currently a homeowner or renter?
  • When is your next visit to campus?
  • Any additional information you think may be helpful for us to assist you, such as desired housing and communities.

*The ability to pay a cash rebate may be modified or prohibited by law in some states. Not valid on previous home sale or purchase transactions. The Relocation Assistance Program is offered in all states and Canada through Coldwell Banker Relocation Services. There are no service fees to enroll for assistance. Direct costs for customary real estate fees, agent touring, mortgage, and furnished housing will apply. Program enrollment before speaking with a real estate agent is required to ensure eligibility for the rebates/commission credits on home purchase or sale. Participants must buy or sell a home through the program referred real estate agent to receive the rebates or commission credits. The rebate or credit amount is based on the purchase or sale price of the home. A rebate check will be sent a few weeks after the closing or a commission credit will be issued at the closing. Mortgage closing cost credits are available only through mortgage companies referred through the program. Closing cost credits are based on the loan amount of the home you buy, which is directly deducted from the closing costs.

Our Wellbeing Hotline offers moving support (PDF) in the form of free educational materials, personalized referrals, and an interactive website to help employees manage a move, ease the transition into a new community, and locate dependent care and personal resources in their new area.

Transitional Housing

Temporary lodging accommodations such as bed and breakfasts and short-term rentals are great ways to stay in the city while looking for a more permanent place to live. Hotels are another great option, and several local hotels offer discounts for GW employees.

  • Pre-Tax Transportation & Metro Parking Program allows benefit-eligible employees (full-time and regular part-time employees) the opportunity to set aside pre-tax dollars each month to be credited to their SmarTrip card, which may be used for Metrorail, Metrobus, and Metro Parking.
