Hospital Indemnity Insurance Coverage

Hospital Indemnity Insurance administered through Voya is a fixed daily benefit you can receive if you or an eligible family member have a covered stay in a hospital, intensive care unit, or rehabilitation facility that occurs after your coverage effective date. The purpose of this benefit is to help you add protection and be better prepared financially should a covered hospitalization occur. Claims and documentation that meet the policy and certificate requirements will need to be provided directly to Voya. No medical questions or tests are required for coverage. This benefit can complement, but not replace health insurance and does not satisfy the requirement of minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

Included Plan Features

  • You choose between the High or Low plan options.

  • Benefits are paid directly to you and are in addition to GW's medical and disability benefits (if eligible and enrolled).

  • You choose whether you wish to enroll eligible dependents.

If You Add A Child To Your Family

Hospital Indemnity Insurance Benefits are available if you have employee or spouse coverage and the individual is hospitalized for childbirth. Your newborn child(ren) may be covered as well.

If Child Coverage Is Effective Before The Child Is Born

Benefits will apply just as they would for any other child.

If Child Coverage Is Not Effective Before The Child Is Born

-   A one-time benefit of $100 is payable for the newborn child’s birth.

-   No admission benefit is payable.

  • Your Hospital Indemnity Insurance includes the following daily benefit(s) if you have an eligible stay in a covered medical facility.
Confinement Daily Benefits

Benefits are payable upon admission on an inpatient basis to a covered facility for confinement as an inpatient due to treatment of an injury or sickness.

Confinement-Related Daily Benefits

Additional benefits are payable on a per day basis for the same days an admission or a confinement benefit is payable. This applies to eligible employees and spouses only.

Non-Confinement Daily Benefits

Payable on a per day basis for a maximum of once per calendar year for events where the insured is not confined to a hospital.


Enrollment in Voya's hospital indemnity insurance is restricted to open enrollment, new hire, and life events. Employees meeting this requirement can enroll in the benefit online via the GW benefits enrollment system.
