I am pleased you chose the George Washington University as part of your career journey. Located in the heart of Washington, DC, our university offers a unique experience. Our mission and strategic initiatives guide our work and contribute to our sense of community.

During your time at GW, I hope you see and explore ways to contribute to the university community and create warm and welcoming environment for all. As a new member of our GW community, strive to foster and maintain a commitment to service, engagement, belonging, and respect in your everyday interactions. GW’s New Employee Orientation is an introduction to the university community and the many resources available to its employees. The session addresses key questions as you begin your role and includes a welcome video from President LeBlanc, a True Colors engagement activity, and insight into what it means to "Raise High" at GW.

New employees are typically scheduled for orientation on the first Monday of their employment. Please review your offer letter to find the date for which you are scheduled. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. All new employees are dismissed for the day at the end of the session.

On the first Wednesday of their employment, new employees can learn about the scope of their benefits as well as payroll procedures at the university by attending a live benefits and payroll webinar.

Day-of Information for New Employees

At 9:00 AM on the day of their orientation, new employees report to the Faculty & Staff Service Center (FSSC), located at 800 21st St. NW in Suite 242 of Marvin Center. Plan to complete the second part of your I-9 and submit payroll related documents at this time. Parking tickets for the Marvin Center Garage can be validated for a prorated rate at this time as well.

Once the required paper work is completed, you will be directed to the GWorld office to obtain your GW ID card. After this, you can continue to your orientation location to enjoy light breakfast and mingle with new colleagues.

Parking Information

A reduced rate for new employees is available at the Marvin Center Garage. To receive this rate, parking must be validated by bringing a copy of your car registration and your parking ticket with you to the Faculty & Staff Service Center, located at 800 21st St. NW in Suite 242 of Marvin Center. Please note that this rate is only available to new employees attending orientation.
