Ready to step it up for a little healthy competition? 

In celebration of National Walking Month, HRMD would like to invite GW staff and faculty to participate in the GW Steps Challenge! Join President Ellen M. Granberg and Ms. Sonya Rankin as we step into a step into a brighter, healthier future together. Watch the President's invitation here:

What is the GW Steps Challenge?

From Wednesday, May 1, 2024 to Friday, May 31, 2024 faculty and staff can compete individually and in teams to achieve 200k steps (or more!). Virtual badges will mark your progress as you achieve intermediate step goals and individual step leaders will be entered into a raffle to win prizes.

You can register at any point during the challenge, but we recommend registering early so you can participate from the beginning. Questions can be directed to [email protected].

Steps Challenge Kick-Off

We will kick off the GW Steps Challenge with a campus walking tour at 12pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. The tour will begin in the University Student Center 1st floor lobby, and is expected to last approximately 60 minutes. The first 100 to join the tour will receive a stainless steel GW Steps Challenge water bottle.

How do I register?

  1. On April 24, 2024, you will receive an emailed invitation from corporatefitness.app to join the GW Steps Challenge.
  2. Use your mobile device camera to scan the QR code in that email to download the app, or click on the link to get started on your computer. 
  3. Set up your device (device-specific instructions are available on the HRMD website under FAQs). 

What if I already track my steps? 

Corporatefitness.app integrates with major fitness trackers. Use the “Connections” feature to sync the app or to your tracker or watch, and it will automatically update your progress.

From your smartphone:

  1. Click the person icon at the bottom of your screen.
  2. You should see a list of app or device options.
  3. Select your app/device and follow the steps in the app to sync.

From your desktop:

  1. Click the person icon in the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Select “Connections.”
  3. Select your app/device and follow the instructions on the site to sync.

FAQs

Q: I can't find my invite email.

Check your inbox and spam folder for an email from corporatefitness.app. If you can't find it, email [email protected] and we can re-send your email.

Q: How do I connect my fitness tracker?

Q: Why didn't my activity count towards my results?

There are some common reasons this might happen:

  1. The activity doesn't meet the event setup; e.g., outside of the challenge dates or invalid speed/pace. Check to make sure the dates of your activity are within the May 1 - May 31 window.
  2. You haven't actually joined the event yet. Ensure you are registered using your invite link.
  3. You have accidentally created a second profile and are adding the activity in a different profile than the one which was connected with the GW Steps Challenge. Contact [email protected] for help deleting the extra profile.

Q: How are activities converted into steps?

Any cycling, swimming, yoga, weight-lifting, and/or wheelchair-based activity will be converted into steps based on the duration of the activity.

Q: How do I join a group?

Users can either join a group the moment they join the challenge or they can do so after they've joined. Please see this CorporateFitness FAQ for more information.
