Lactation Rooms for New Mothers

At The George Washington University, we are pleased to announce the following “motherhood rooms”, which provide new mothers a private, secure space to express their breast milk.  Unless otherwise noted, the below spaces are open to all GW community members on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Foggy Bottom Campus

Marvin Center

Marvin Center, 2nd Floor
Dedicated space available to all GW community members 7 days a week from 7am to midnight. 

Old Main

Old Main, Room 404
Dedicated space available to all GW community members 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday. 

Support Building, 1st Floor
Dedicated space available to all GW community members 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday.  Includes sink, refridgerator and microwave in room.
2175 K Street, Suite 500 
Space available to all GW community members 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Please request a key from the front desk assistant in the suite.
Law Library

Jacob Burns Law Library (non-dedicated)
Available to faculty, staff and students of the GW Law School with access to the Jacob Burns Law Library.   Individuals with access may check out a key from the Circulation Desk on an as needed basis or contact the Dean of Students Office at 202-994-8320 for information on how to get a key to the room.  Refrigerator, microwave, and equipment storage available.

Law Library Ross Hall, Himmelfarb Library (non-dedicated)
Available to faculty, staff and students of GW's School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Public Health & Health Services that have access to the Himmelfarb Library. Room is located off of the B1 level ladies room.

Additional, non-dedicated space is available based on the needs of the individual. Please contact the Faculty & Staff Service Center at  202-994-8500 for assistance.

Mount Vernon Campus

Academic Building

Dedicated space available to all GW community members 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday.

 

Virginia Science & Technology Campus

Enterprise Hall

Dedicated space available to all GW community members. If room is locked, please contact the Enterprise Hall security guard on the ground level lobby.

Breastfeeding Resources

GW New Parent Support: Whether you are preparing for the birth of your child or have already welcomed your new baby home, GW is committed to providing programs and resources that can support you at every stage.

GW's Parenting Initiatve Learn about GW's university-wide, collaborative effort to better support GW parents and breastfeeding families in our community and in our hospital.

La Leche League:The mission of La Leche is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

Employees Guide to Breastfeeding and Working: Developed by the Department of Health & Human Services, this six page booklet provides you with the basics you need to know for successfully continuing to breastfeed after returning to work.

The Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington: The Center is located just off the Foggy Bottom campus at 2141 K Street, NW.  The staff at the Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington is committed to optimizing the breastfeeding experience from the beginning. Supportive classes emphasize healthy and normal breastfeeding variations, with respect and understanding of the unique family.
